This is a marvelous RPG game and a true gem in the RPG world. This game offers so much on just a few pages and is very well thought through. It does not have to stand behind big players such as WB, DnD and Basic Fantasy. On the contrary, with its clear structured and very well explained rules, it is even suited very well for die hard RPG gamers. We played this in a group of OSR fanboys and it was a blast. Thank you very much for creating such a nice piece of RPG. The "example of play" also comes handy. I wish other creators would do such tutorials for their games.
HOWEVER: I really wish the creator could make a A5 booklet instead of lots of those small written pages. I can hardly read this, it is just so damn small! Thanks.

Patrick,
Thank you very much for your written review, it really means a lot and I’m so glad you like the game!
As to your desire for a print version of the game, I have some good news. The early steps at creating a print on demand version of the game is in the works! I’ll have more information in the near future on my YouTube channel, RPGOverviews.
Happy adventuring!

Content is well done!
Format: I don't like the 3 pages/3-colums with 1 page/2-colums. It means I can't print both double sided and fold nicely. Maybe it's because I'd prefer all one format (all 2- or all 3- colum pages) so I can fold it together. As it is, I agree the individual pages look nice and the flow makes sense.

I've only run this for a few times and only once with another player (alside from soloplay) and the game moves really quick. Once you get into the head space of the game it is so much easier and quicker to run than anyother rpg I have run. It is just the rules framework with out a setting so you will have to use another setting or make one up but that isn't a flaw. Can't recommend this game highly enough. It's a lot of fun and pretty much snag free.

I’m a sucker for rules lite systems and sci-fi, so I was pleasantly surprised to see a future focused RPG from the same guy that did Pocket Fantasy (which is free so there is no reason not to go check it out too).
My first thought was this seems to be an easy accessible rule set for Traveler style, hard sci-fi stories, prefect for using the decades worth of material written for that genre. However, I don’t think it would feel out of place to use it for most sci-fi settings from golden age pulp to Firefly.
Like a good rules lite game the basics are approachable for new players, but I wouldn’t say new GMs. Several of the pages are dedicated to providing GMs with tools to help create an original universe (the dice drop mechanic for creating a solar system on the fly is really cool) but you won’t find paragraphs explaining the role of the GM and how to plays RPGs. What you get is a dense 10 pages, though really it’s triple columns so if you reformatted to a traditional zine format you’d be looking at closer to 35-40 pages. There is no fluff, it just dives right into the all the rules you need, which as a fan of rules lite systems is just what I want.
What to like: Quick and accessible. Simple mechanics that seem easy to teach and easy to recall at the table. Uses d6 so everyone is already setup with what they need. Rules cover a lot more than you would expect for 10 pages, including space ships, space combat, rules for generating aliens, universe and solar system creation, and several pages of adventuring ideas.
It’s only a dollar. It’s a lot of game for a dollar.
Caveats: Horror sci-fi is incredibly popular at the moment. Pocket Space doesn’t have mechanics for sanity or stress which seem integral to such games. Easy enough to add but if you’re going to use these rules with the stacks of adventures coming out for that genre you’ll need to hack some in. EDIT Covered in a new expansion
No space wizards or magic. Which may or may not be important to you.
Droid and robots are to be included in an upcoming expansion so don't exist quite yet. Edit**OUT NOW!**

The ease and portabilty of this system make it ideal for an impromptu RPG experience, and the addition of all these player race options really broadens the opportunities for players to explore non-traditional PCs without taxing the game with onerous complexity. Excellent addition to the system.

This is such a great expansion for Pocket Fantasy. the new races have taken a lot of thought and this is great for quick pick up games or extended campaigns.

Got my "group" together (my wife, best friend and his fiance). They are D&D players, but not anymore! They/we have fallen in love with Pocket Fantasy! Combat is a lot faster and more realistic to them than D&D's armor class system. Converting D&D monsters and modules seem easy to me, plus less stats to keep up with, so the game flows quickly and I loved the dungeon generator system. I could make a side quest on the fly with no interruptions or slow down.
I recently purchased the 3 modules that are also available, and plan on learning from them. The cards for the game are a bonus. Keep up the great work, and am looking forward to more from the author for this wonderful game!

This is a great module for a great minimalist RPG. Send your group stomping through knee deep water, down corridors festooned with vines and creepers, pole a rotted boat through a dark underwater cavern with only massive pillars for scenery. The PCs will have to take on giant crabs, fight a tribe of lizardmen (and their pet giant lizards) and much more to solve the mystery. Each area is described in detail with great flavor text. The ending is exciting and will get your group in a panic. One of my favorite things about these modules are the lists of random items to find instead of randomizing treasure. The players get a lot of mileage out of finding ways to use this stuff, and its much better than how many d6 of gold you find.
I can't recommend Pocket Fantasy RPG and Black Water Swirling enough! Brandon, time to give us a new adventure!

Spectacular example of OSR "rules lite" gameplay. Simple yet effective.
An amazing amount of "imagination starters" in such a small package.
Highly recommended for neophytes as well as grizzled veterans looking to shake things up.

I've been playing Pocket Fantasy for about 2 years, and I can say that with its surprinsingly simplicity, this game can do things in an extraordinary way, giving lots of fun and enterteinment! Since my firts sessions of Pocket Fantasy, it became my favourite RPG rule system ever. Now, 2 years later, I am still amazed with this little piece of pure gold! A fast system, but istil complete! It has all that we need to run long campaigns or even one shot adventures. The idea of the cards helps a lot during the gameplay. Sorry for may bad english (I am from the countryside of Brazil). I really think everybody should try Pocket Fantasy!

I can't say enough good things about this amazing gem of an RPG. If you're looking for a perfect one shot system that is light but still scratches all the necessary itches then look no further. Wrapped up in the 4 pages of the rules is all the info you need to get started and have an awesome dungeon crawl experience in a short period of time. It reminds of OD&D/AD&D/White Box using only a D6. The simple task resolution system based on your attributes allows you the freedom to do anything you can think of from jumping over a pit, to sneaking around, pushing a door open, reading magical writing etc...It's there to give rulings as opposed to rules. Pick the difficulty and try to roll that number or higher on a D6. A laughable task for example would succeed on a 2+ while a very difficult task will only succeed on a 6. Certain classes will get rerolls to their task rolls depending on what their specialty is. For example thieves have the skill "Nimble" which allows them rerolls when doing any task based on agility. Speaking of rerolls, there is a feature of the system called "Heroic Rerolls." Anytime you roll a 6 on anything whether it's a task roll, combat roll, etc...you can roll the dice again. If another 6 pops up you get what's called a Heroic Reroll which essentially allows you to reroll any dice roll at any time. These rerolls really help drive the system. It's fantastic. Add to all this is a simple combat system that wil be familar to anyone that has played D&D. There are the 4 basic classes (Wizard, Fighter, Cleric, Thief) in the basic game with another 8 added in the Class Compendium. Also included is a nice bestiary of monsters and an adventure plot/dungeon Generator. Anyways hopefully you get the general idea. I personally have no criticism of this game. You owe it to yourself to download and try it out. You won't regret it. It's aleady become my favorite one shot RPG when time is limited and I don't want to deal with crunch, campaigns, and leveling.
