Modern Floorplans: An Average Modern Ranger's Station
by Michael I. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/13/2013 14:22:26

This floorplan is flexible enough to be used as a small town house in a modern monster adventure and looks pretty good doing it! I staged a zombie fight in it and it is generic enough that I could have another one at a "neighbors" house and no one would remember that it is the same plan. Sweetness for a free building!

Modern Floorplans: An Average Modern Jazz Club
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 02/11/2013 12:00:45

Herein are plans to a single-room 'performance' venue - the headline 'jazz club' is just one of the acts that could appear here. It would be just as good for stand-up comedians or other acts.

The premises are rather long and thin, and it's easy to imagine that this is some basement dive. In the main room there is a stage, an open space with tables and chairs and a bar with a few stools. Steps lead down from the entrance, and it meets standard requirements by having rest rooms. There isn't much room behind the bar, although there is a small office and a larger dressing room for performers beside the stage, with a back door if they need to beat a hasty retreat!

The plans come as a single sheet suitable for printing out and putting on the table in front of your players as a general view of the place they are visiting, and a massive single sheet version (18" x 24") for miniatures users who have access to a plotter. The text talks about a multiple-page version that can be produced on a normal printer and be stuck together, but none is provided.

PDF technology is used to good effect - you can toggle on and off the grid, furniture, text or the walls (not quite sure why you might want that unless you have a dramatically different shape of room in mind) - and overall it is an excellent dive in which you can perform or listen to some good music with a drink in hand, or plot an intrigue or two whilst nobody can overhear you.

    Play it again, Sam!

    Modern Floorplans: Nightclub
by Ville V. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/29/2013 14:12:58

The print quality of this map is excellent but the map itself lacks some basic stuff like storage rooms and a backstage. I was planning to use this map as the base of operations for the PCs in my SR4 campaign but I'll have to do some serious modifications to make it functional enough.

The Michael Rohan Memorial Fund Charity Bundle [BUNDLE]
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 07/27/2012 11:22:42

    What can I say?

It's a tragedy, and as a Mom myself I feel so much for those who have seen a young life cut short... but how wonderful the spirit that seeks to help prevent others falling victim to the same fate.

Thank you to all those publishers who have contributed product, and to the good folks at Fabled Environments for putting this package together, and the crew at DriveThru for making it all work.

And Thank You to everyone who has bought this bundle, whether motivated by the urge to help one of our own or attracted in by the goodies on offer.

Note: bought with own money, even if I am a featured reviewer :)

    Modern Floorplans: Arctic Research Station
by Michael A. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 07/14/2012 19:39:47

The Arctic Research Station is a very accurate architectural drawing - evoking a style that is perfect for modern and near future games. Provided is a location with one hub, two living quarters, and a research/lab space. The architectural drawing includes furniture and equipment to make give a better feel of the environment.

This floorplan is perfect for something like a google+ hang out, where the game master can bring up an image and let the players draw their character's positions. It may also be adaptable for Virtual Tabletop.

Off the top of my head, this map could be used for games ranging from Conspiracy X to Cthulhutech to Werewolf: the Apocalypse.

The only issue is scale - each page is presented in two sizes, 8.5x11 and 24x36 (a standard plotter size). If you do not have access to a plotter, printing off sections of the drawing at full scale is a hassle, and may result in wasted paper. I'd recommend the publisher also includes full scale 8.5x11 sections to make printing easy (and it should be simple for them, all they need to use is viewports in AutoCAD or Microstation).

In all, it's a good product for $3. I'll be sure to check out some of Fabled Environment's other maps when I need them for an online game!

Modern Floorplans Volume 1: Office Spaces
by Aaron H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/22/2012 14:07:05

The following review was originally posted at Roleplayers Chronicle and can be read in its entirety at http://roleplayerschronicle.com/?p=23156.

Office Spaces is a collection of three different modern office floorplans covering: Strip Mall Office, Highrise Building, and Warehouse Building. Each one is fully detailed with furniture and room identifiers and come in four formats: fully labeled with grid, no grid, no labels, and no furniture or labels. Having these different formats allows the GM maximum flexibility for what they wish to use the floorplan for including uses outside of modern settings such as post-apocalyptic or sci-fi.

    OVERALL

Business locations are rarely the same going from one place to another. The best part of the Office Spaces collection of floorplans is that the layouts of these offices is very simple, somewhat standard, and more importantly completely generic. This too provides maximum flexibility to the GM for incorporation into whatever setting they are using. Although you don’t often see combat within a business office, they make great additions for investigative and even horror games. Can you imagine what may be hiding within that inner-conference room?

    RATINGS

Publication Quality: 10 out of 10 Office Spaces is an extremely clean set of floorplans. The variety of the three styles is especially nice for use within various settings (urban, suburban, and warehouse) and so simple that their interpretation can vary just as much – especially when you use the unlabeled maps. The entire publication is clear and crisp and laid-out extremely well.

Visual Appeal: 8 out of 10 While the floorplans are clean, they are completely clean in that they contain no color or decoration. While they look great, they are a little on the boring side and ready for color. However, this style of design does allow the GM to add their own decoration anywhere they’d like, especially where it makes sense. While looking at a black and white floorplan is a little dull, it definitely gets the job done.

Desire to Use: 10 out of 10 I can think of a number of uses for floorplans such as these in and out of the modern genre. In fact, if you add a little destruction to the walls and furniture, you have yourself an awesome post-apocalyptic floorplan where deadly firefights could ensue. A lot is left to the imagination as what’s presented is so basic, but the excellent formatting of the floorplan and placement of all the key items (bathrooms, conference rooms, offices, cubicles, etc.) make for very realistic settings.

Overall: 9 out of 10 I love battlemaps and finding ones for modern settings is often difficult. While you may think you can just sketch out the office building you saw the other day, finding the right dimensions can prove challenging. Office Spaces takes that challenge away and provides three different office spaces that look and feel like actual, modern day offices. If this is the look you want, then there’s no need to look elsewhere.

    Modern Floorplans: Airship
by Sarah L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/04/2011 12:41:12

I love the simplicity of the blue prints for this Zepplin - it makes it easy to print out, but gives a good overview of the construction of the ship. I would have put the single-page version of the ship at the front, instead of in the middle, so that the person using it could get a good look at the entire thing before looking at all of the pieces. But other than that, it delivers exactly what it promises - a good solid floorplan.

    Modern Floorplans: Victorian Style Mansion
by Marc G. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/02/2011 15:22:41

This floorplan is a workhorse. I've used it for modern games, Victorian era games and even basic fantasy. The ability to display the maps with or without grids and interior details is a big plus, along with the full size version for those of us with (or have friends with) large plotters! Great stuff! Near the top when it comes to cost/benefit ratio.

    Thanks guys!

by Michael H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 10/10/2011 00:44:00

Terrific looking, black & white renderings of an airship. The quality of these "blue" prints is excellent with a well-written description and narrative accompanying them describing the general layout and operation of the airship. If you're looking to run any sort of pulp or steampunk game, these are well worth the low asking price.

    Modern Floorplans: Hotel
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 08/06/2011 12:32:04

Anyone who has ever played a contemporary game must have, at some point, visited an hotel. Whether the characters are on the move and need somewhere to stay, or a meeting place, or a hideout... hotels feature in spy tales, thrillers... even supernatural games. It is unlikely that, if you play contemporary games, that you will never have needed one. Often, you may be able to get away with using one you've visited yourself (she says, remembering a scene set in London's Langham Hilton), but if trouble comes to visit your characters (or they start some), more than a description from memory will be useful.

This one's quite interesting, as it has been produced in collaboration with Silver Gryphon Games, as a setting for one of their adventures - Shrödinger's Box. If you happen to possess a copy, you will find 3 levels of the Provincial Hotel provided in reasonable detail in its pages; but if you like mapping out your combats, it is well worth picking this product up for the added detail. Naturally, even if you don't have it, you can find plenty of uses for this rather nice hotel.

After a brief run-down, generic to all their map products I've seen, on how this map series came to see the light of day, this product opens with some flavour text: a travel writer's notes on the Provincial Hotel. Cleverly, no city name is given, so if you are not using Wellstone City (Silver Griffin Games's imaginary city setting) it will work just as well elsewhere. Then on to the plans themselves. They are designed to ultilise the capablities of the latest version of Adobe Acrobat - and if you do not have a current copy of Acrobat Reader, which is a free download, it is worth acquiring. The plans come in three formats, so that you can pick whatever is most convenient. Firstly, there are single-page overviews of each floor (these are the ones you get in Shrödinger's Box), then there are a series of pages which when laid out together give you each floor in battlemap scale, and finally - for those who have a plotter or access to one at a good copy shop or similar - the same printable on a single sheet. Moreover, before printing you can use the 'layers' technology to decide whether or not you want a grid overlay, text, furniture or the reference numbers to match the text of Shrödinger's Box.

The Ground Floor has the lobby, offices, dining room, kitchen, and other public areas as well as some suites. The Second Floor has more suites and public spaces - some of the suites are quite palatial with social areas and even private cooking facilities, and all are en suite, of course. The Third Floor, which can be repleated as many times as necessary depending on how large an hotel you need, has more rooms, but less in the way of public areas apart from corridors and utility rooms which are presumably mainly for use by the housekeeping staff (or by guests who need to launder clothes during their stay).

All is presented in a neat, architectural draft, style and it enables you to be very precise about what's where, angles, cover and all those details you need to bear in mind when violence threatens... A fine mapset for anyone needing a modern and rather nice hotel for their characters to visit.
