While I'm not one to complain about free product, the lack of effective mapping made this one largely useless.

Not bad-a bit basic, but these are hooks, ideas around which you flesh out a plot. And the price is certainly right!

Besides being free, these are very good quality images. A couple are a tad cheesy (the archer on the right on the cover with disco hair), but that's a personal view. I use them to make very nice pogs for MapTool.

From the looks of this set, I'd recommend the rest of the line.

Brujaria
Publisher: FJ Gaming
by JD S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/07/2008 03:42:16

An utter rip-off of a product-do not buy.

The inference on the product was that it was a 'stand-alone product ready to be plugged into your campaign" so you can add a given element (in this case, Mexican spell-casters) to your system as desired. This is untrue.

What you get a is thumbnail sketch of a western town ( a hundred words or so) , the information that some bandits (with names like Buffalo Annie) are hold up in a icy cave nearby, and a short paragraph describing the Brujaria. And then this gem of an instruction on the last page:

The Gunslingers and Gamblers rules do not make allowances for magic and supernatural powers. Instead, the GM should use magic strictly as a plot device. The odds are that the player characters themselves will know almost nothing about magic and whatever they do know is likely to be wrong. A GM should keep this sense of mystery in mind whenever he or she introduces a supernatural element to the game.

Yep, that's the 'plug in to your campaign' for adding Mexican witches.

Do not waste your money.

Hi JD, I'm sorry to hear your disappointed in Brujaria. Of course you're entitled to your opinion but I do consider saying "its an utter rip of product" and giving it 1 out of 5 a bit harsh in the circumstances. Subjective issues aside I feel that I do have to correct some of your comments for the sake of anyone reading this review. 'stand-alone product ready to be plugged into your campaign' is not an inference. The micro-supplement is ready to go as is with Rosa and the other NPC's all statted up ready to play. The product does add a single Mexican spell caster to the game, Rosa, and provides everything you need to use her as an NPC. The product is categorised as Western, Adventure/Plot, NPC/Opponent.. not a rules expansion. Your comments on the length of the product are a little disingenous, implying that it's only a few hundred words and a few paragraphs. It is actually 1700 words in length. The quote you have taken is perfectly accurate, it would perhaps have been a little more useful to people reading this review to have continued it: "introduces a supernatural element to the game. Below are a few examples of how the witch woman‘s curse might affect different characters; The curse makes it so that the character can’t sleep, now matter how tired he gets. A character loses the ability to use his highest ranked Trait. You could describe this loss in a variety of ways.." This continues for another 100 words, giving game rules for five potential curses to be used by a Brujaria. Fair enough that it's not the detailed magic system you were looking for, but it's certainly enough to play Rosa as an effective NPC in your campaign. It does sound like you were wanting some kind of rules expansion for player chartacter Mexican magic-users and unfortunately this isn't what you were after and not what the product promised to deliver. To avoid any future confusion I've clarified the blurb to explicitly state that the product does not introduce a detailed sub-system for Mexican magic (excepting the rules for Brujaria curses). In addition, if you'd like to email me I'll arrange a refund for you.

Weapon Law: Firearms

Great product. With this, Arms Law/Armory, and Blaster Law, you can handle any combat from Rome to Star Wars. I would recommend getting the Equipment Guide for several high-tech weapons charts, and Vehicle Law for their vehicle combat system as well.

One compliant: FA is not fully compatable with Blaster Law's armor. It would be nice if it could be adjusted.

e-Adventure Tiles: Desert Bluffs

This should have been named 'Desert Dunes', as the area is too small to really be bluffs, however, there's no problems with it, aside from the need for a plain sand hex, although the free one from the colisum works in a pinch.

A very good product, this expands the E-Z lines into the desert/wastelands. Hopefully, there will be an oasis pack soon, which will round things out nicely.

Spacemaster Equipment Manual PDF
Publisher: DriveThruCards Announcements
by JD S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/03/2008 12:35:57

This product consists of 129 pages with the clean set-up and quality interior line-art common to ICE products. It spends the first 30-odd pages laying out the writer’s concepts of the various stages of tech development and social evolution (a good deal of the latter being rather asinine or wildly optimistic, and which certainly would cripple RPG use, but then, ICE has always been good with systems, terrible with settings).

The next twenty-odd pages cover weapons and armor, somewhat redundant if you have Blaster Law, largely useless if you do not.

At p.55, you start getting into equipment, specifically clothing. Equipment is broken down into general categories, with each item described, plus a handy table listing items and prices. I would have preferred that the list be at the start of each section, but that is not a large issue.

After thirty pages of equipment (less than they spent discussing the evolution of technology from the rock to FTL, and the rise of society from killing each other with rocks, to killing ach other with blasters), we go to Section IV: Using Equipment. This covers using designing, building, malfunctions, and repairing equipment. This requires 12 pages, including the usual full-page charts. At p.99 we go to the Appendixes, which include the usual information on how to convert the stats given t other systems, and a collection of critical hit results, some of which are rather useful, and some which can be found in other ICE supps. On p.105 we get weapons pages ala Arms Law for such high-tech weapons as the battle axe, broadsword, and club. Fortunately they do go to some advanced tech weapons such as the needler, flamer, and the like, which are extremely useful.

The supp closes with a re-print of all the equipment tables, and an index, both of which are useful.

Overall, a solid piece of work. There are weapon tables here you will not get in Blaster Law, and the equipment is fist-rate. I would like to drop about 15-20 pages of ‘what the writers think tech/society will be’ in favor of more equipment, but with ICE, you have to accept a certain amount of wastage.

Bits of the Boulevard
Publisher: Tabletop Adventures, LLC
by JD S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/03/2008 12:33:59

This product consists of 65 pages; the cover is truly ghastly amateur art that Judges’ Guild would have considered unworthy, but that’s a moot point in a pdf. Four pages are spent with the usual bumpf, and then there are 100 ‘Bits of the Boulevard’ each a visual image of a street scene written in a rather florid style; if I used this product, I would have to paraphrase the description, as it does not flow naturally. Then you get 80 ‘shards of the street’, which are scenes tied to specific areas of the city. Then are 22 ‘Walls and Gates’, which have to do with observations made in those areas. The writing is not bad, but rather far too florid, the sort of over-emphasized melodrama one associates with high school students. Five pages of very basic and simplistic discussion on why cities exist, followed by an index, and then the first hundred descriptions repeated a second time in an ‘index card’ format.

This product might be useful to a beginning GM with limited or no experience, or a GM wanting to add color to a one-off or a short campaign without any appreciable setting, but otherwise it is of limited appeal, and very over-priced.

An excellent expansion of the very good Volume 1. Volume 2 really 'spices up' the flooded cave genre, with more natural and fast-moving tiles. I recommend both sets, which will give you tremendous capabilities.

e-Adventure Tiles: Multi-Level Caves
Publisher: SkeletonKey Games
by JD S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/29/2008 23:09:34

While the production values are as always the best, and the tile count is generous, I would have to say that this is the least viable pack I've bought (and I've got close to 20) of the e-Adventure tiles. While the concept is good, too many of the tiles (nearly all, in fact) have the second level continued onto other tiles. This means that linkage with other tile sets is low, and the multi-level chambers are limited to just a few configurations, something that e-Z tiles normally is never guilty of.

Sprawling Shadows, Weapons: Book of Swords vol. 1
Publisher: Grell Head Studios
by JD S. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/26/2008 14:24:37

Not worth a buck. The sword illustrations are color cartridge killers, and they were drawn bey people who apparently have no concept of what a sword is or what it is used for. Some of the quillons and crossguards would cause injury to a user with each swing. The write-ups are very basic, and overall its a waste of time.
