Throuples are drama.

This module has all three pillars of play, and is still well-paced - you can complete it in four hours without trouble, but, given it's a Silver ENNIE award winner, why not take two sessions and enjoy the RP and the sense of going into an alien, fey realm with its own morality and expectations.

Splendid blend of new and old school. The funeral vignette to start is a grest plot hook, and the dungeon seftio offers a timed challenge, ending in a satisfactory end confrontation. Get this, you'll be glad you did.

Just a superb adventure, with a very cyberpunk/shadowrun feel rarely pulled off in D&D.

Would love to see more adventures set in Duerradin. It's such an interesting setting.

Really great supplement. There is a lot of love in this project. Not only rules and events for your tavern, but also plot hooks from NPCs, dice games, recipes, and labels for your tavern's brews. Superb job by all concerned. My play by forum table went completely nuts with enthusiasm when I suggested using these rules.

This, IMHO, is one of the better Tier 2's out there for Season 1. DMs running it should focus on making the time pressure papable. The NPCS are memorable (one returns in Season 2 with a dramatic character arc), and the final encounter is challenging tactically.

Very satisfying to play or run.

This is a fun mod, there are some memorable with hags and kobolds, and some misdirection.

I liked the fact you coukd encounter the final boss twice, makes the combat more challenging and the role of party healers more important.

Memorable NPCs, and a tactically complex final encounter. Very solid mod.

This mod is moody and atmospheric: there's also a fair amount of misdirection. The final encounter can be a surprise for the PCs: was certainly the case when I played it. There's no particular tactical aspects that stand out for the combats. Overall, a good but not great mod. Fun if you have nostalgia for the old Gold Box PC games.

This looks very tasty and fun, with a great reward for the players, BUT, the version as of 5/23 is missing a document to help guide the admins and Dms running it. it's competitive - but based on what? None of the pdfs say. Nor do they spell out rewards.

Maze of Shadows

This is a great conclusion to an excellent arc, and gives characters from a ToA campaign a heroic conclusion to their adventures in Chult.

Mechanically, the outcome of the module relies on the choices and actions of the party in this and in prequel modules. This is well done, and creates tension for the DM as well, as you're wondering if your players will make the right choices.

It also has one of the best instances of using the chase rules from the DMG in a module that I've seen.

Thematically, the final section in the Shadowfell is filled with atmosphere. I would have appreciated mire suggestions on varying difficulty of combatsm and potential second waves of reinforcements. Tier 3 parties have a large range of power, depending on builds, synergy, and magic items, and suggestions on thematic additions to the final fight would have been useful.

Like any Chultan campaign, it's a good idea to read the Ring of Winter novel (you can get it on Kindle) before running this. It gives more lore on the setting, and more of Artus Cimber's history,

My only regret is I bought this before the compilation of Lost City of Mezro came out.

The Risen Mists
Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild
by Catullus C. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/12/2019 12:50:29

This is a very solid adventure that forms a good coda to a ToA campaign and continues the Artus/Dragonbait narrative arc. Parts 1 and 2 are very thematic, and I liked that in Part 1 there are multiple ways to resolve an encounter. Part 2 is a temple encounter where the choices of the PCs make a significant difference to the difficulty and narrative of the last two fights in the part 2.

Part 3 is a bit less detailed than parts 1 & 2, and is almost an entirely separate plot thread. So in my run I actually did Part 3 first and then Parts 2 & 3. As narratively the encounter with a corrupted immortal fragment of Ubtao seemed more climatic than an encounter with the result of a magical experiment by a mortal gone wrong. It also should give the PCs more time with a certain thematic magic item in Part 3.

I'm very much looking to running Maze of Shadows after this.

CCC-AETHER-01-02 The Heir of Orcus: Verse II

Date Added: 12/03/2018 00:33:05

This is a good mod, although a change of pace from Verse 1, as it is much more combat-focused.

There are a few unresokved question. Do the PCs have to kill the Spawn in the sacrophagus to fulfill the quest? Does a paladin's Divine Sense work in the temple? As otherwise it could make the final decision the PCs have to make rather easy.

Still five stars, but Verse 1 is the better half of this series.

All round, one of the best Tier 1 CCCs. Presentation is great, between the eight-bit graphics and the comic psnels at the start.

The NPCs are well fleshed out, and the dinner party is a fantastic opportunity for RP. The decisions of the PCs matter in both this mod and the next. The only thing is that the Holy Order NPCs are less three-dimensional than the Zariel cultists, but that's because the Zariel cultists are so well done.

The side mission with the dragon is also very fun with an innovative way of resolving the challenge.

Have played this module, but not Dm'd it. It's a good mod, although the puzzles in the middle lack theme with the rest. Some Fey riddles would have been more thematic than Tangram puzzles.

However, the feast and skill battle is truly great, and will become part of the PCs backstories.

The Season 5 Tier 2's,while not as exceptional as the Tier 1's, are still pretty solid.

This is a good, quick mod that can be easily slotted into a Storm King's Thunder hardcover campaign, given it's short length.

The initial infiltration can be a bit tricky, so drop hints to the party to ensure they don't try a head-on approach.

Prep a few personalities for the dwarven soldiers and NCO's so that any losses of or self- sacrifice by the dwarves are more meaningful.

The final encounter can be a satisfying final fight or an opportunity for some epic deceptive play against dumb opponents.

A solid mid, with a bit of extra prep can be very memorable.
