    Biblicals Set
    Publisher: Arion Games

My beef with most "biblicals" miniatures sets I've run across is that they never seem to include the Hebrews. This one has a Jewish high priest, prophet, shepherd, and a couple other generic civilian types. That's certainly an improvement. However, all the warriors are Assyrian or Persian. There's not a Philistine giant, sword-slinging Joshua or Gideon, or slingshot-packing shepherd boy in the bunch. It's sort of a catch-all set, trying to include several different ancient cultures without giving us as much of each as we might want. As with other Arion Games offerings, this one provides a good variety of character types for the role-player but not enough soldiers for the wargamer seeking to create an army. The illustrations are colorful and detailed.

The Good: Provides a variety of beautiful character types, including Hebrews

The Bad: Doesn't give us enough figures to fully represent each of the three cultures included

Thanks for the very balanced review. One problem with creating a set such as this is the target market. A whole set of hebrews is probably too specialised for many gamers, but a general set does not have enough of each. Some play only historical games and do not want mythological creatures, whilst others must have creatures! That said, there is a second set of biblicals on the way this year, and we also have a very exciting project in the works that will be of interest. In the meantime, you may also want to check out Targum magazine (available from this site) as we have provided quite a few biblical miniatures for that. As an aside, i noticed that your email address is set to hidden under the publisher contact options. Greeks Set

Greek miniatures are hard to find, and affordable ones are rarer still. These beautifully rendered color minis fit the bill nicely. There is a nice variety of character types, and the A-frame and tri-fold versions effectively give you double the figures for your money. Wargamers may have wanted the bundle to include more soldiers so they could create their armies. But for the role-playing crowd it's just right.

Personally, I think some of the critters from the Monsters set -- such as the Satyr, Centaur, Medusa and Cyclops -- should have been bundled with this one. But that's a nitpick, and it does include classic mythological creatures such as the Hydra, Minotaur, and Pegasus.
