Accursed: Science and Sea
Publisher: Star Anvil Studios
by Richard W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/05/2016 04:35:19

I received this supplement as a stretch goal for the Accursed: World of Morden kickstarter. Science and Sea provides extensive information about the Discordian Sea, which is separated into the inshore waters and the deep ocean, but the book also covers locations such as Nordheim, Sakuran Shogunate, and the colonies. The supplement contains stats and information about various types of ship, along with sea monsters, and of course some appropriately themed Edges and Hindrances.

This is obviously a must-buy for any Accursed campaign with a strong nautical focus, but as with the other books it also provides useful information that can be incorporated into any Accursed campaign.

My only minor complaint is the size of the PDF - I'm not sure why it's so large, but I have pretty limited storage space on my tablet. If I had to guess, I'd say the background and/or some of the artwork has a very high DPI, and has been kept at full resolution.

Accursed: Frost and Fang
Publisher: Star Anvil Studios

I received this supplement as part of the Accursed: World of Morden kickstarter. Frost and Fang covers the nations of Steppengrad and Valkenholm, providing a lot of valuable geographical and historical detail, along with a handful of new monsters, Edges and Hindrances. If you're planning to run a campaign set in these regions, you will find the book extremely useful - but even if not, there are still plenty of little nuggets you can incorporate into your games.

As with all Accursed books, the layout and artwork are superb, as is the organization of the information.

Publisher's Choice -Equipment Subscription
Publisher: Publisher's Choice Stock Art
by Richard W. [Verified Purchaser]

This is probably my favourite of the subscription art packs, mainly because I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it. It's currently still quite small (seven sets at the time of writing this review), but it's updated regularly, and it provides an excellent way to expand my library with high quality filler art.

The artist has previously released a few other equipment-based packs: "23 Bladed Weapons", "15 Hammers, Axes, Maces", "8 Helms and Headwear", "8 Armor & Clothing" and a couple of "Assorted Items" packs. The art in this subscription has the same style as those older packs, so they can be seamlessly mixed together, but this new art broadens the range of gear, adding firearms, shields, bracers, exotic blades, and so on. I'm always curious and excited to see what we'll get next!

My only (minor) complaint is that the gear on the cover isn't actually included in the pack.

Publisher's Choice - Creatures A to Z: Subscription
Publisher: Publisher's Choice Stock Art
by Richard W. [Verified Purchaser]

This extensive art pack keeps growing every week, and the illustrations are really good. I particularly like the demons and some of the more monstrous creatures, like the behir and the chimera, although I think the bulette is probably my favourite overall.

The only drawback is that the artwork has a very distinctive/vibrant style. It looks great, but you can't really mix it with other figure illustrations (other than those in the Lovecraftian Horrors subscription) if you want to keep a consistent art style throughout your RPG supplement.

Drakonheim: City of Bones
Publisher: Sneak Attack Press
by A customer [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/12/2016 14:47:39

This system-neutral setting book is around 32K words, and describes the history, geography, people and politics of the city of Drakonheim. A fragile peace has been reached in the aftermath of a hobgoblin invasion, during which a cabal of necromancers revealed their existence to the populace, raising an undead army to defend the city. Now that the immediate threat has passed, old rivalries have returned with a vengeance, and various political factions once again maneuver for power. In addition to being system-neutral, the city and its surrounding area are also relatively self-contained, and could be dropped into most established fantasy worlds with minimal effort. But there is easily enough content in this book to run a full campaign set in the city of Drakonheim. The book is 7"x10", with a professional look and nice layout, and it offers both bookmarks and layers. The illustrations are well done and definitely fit the setting, they're all in colour and by the same artist (so the style is consistent), and there is an average of about one piece of art every two pages (including quite a few portraits). There are also two full-page maps, one of the city itself, and one of the surrounding area. Overall, this product exceeded my expectations. Note: The invasion itself was actually described in Heroes of Drakonheim, an earlier trilogy of free adventures that also make an excellent introduction to the setting. Although these adventures were originally written for D&D, anyone using a system-neutral setting shouldn't have trouble adapting it, and the publisher has made it available for free.

Very nice piece of goblin artwork. The illustration is 1275 x 1649 pixels, or 862 x 1616 if you trim the empty space. There are actually four images: line art on a white background, gray scale on a transparent background, colour on a white background, and colour on a transparent background.

A very nice piece of artwork. The dimensions are 3466x2454 pixels, but that includes a large white border around the outside which can easily be cropped or extended to suit different page sizes and proportions.

Standard Stock Art: Goblin Mega-Pack
Publisher: Publisher's Choice Stock Art
by Richard W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/22/2016 16:35:06

This is an excellent collection of diverse goblin artwork. There are 2 portrait illustrations (framed goblin heads), 1 larger illustration of a wolf rider charging through a forest, and 20 illustrations of various different types of goblin (abyssal, aquatic, arctic, crypt, scout, standard bearer, urban, gobtaur, infiltrator, jungle, magma, pyromancer, rock, sewer, stone, trash, warrior, wasteland and two different wolf riders).

If you just want generic goblin filler art, many of these illustrations might be a bit too specific. However if you're looking for a wide variety of different goblin types, this collection is absolutely superb.

These illustrations are really nice, the artist has done an excellent job. Note that the images are 2480 x 3508 pixels (A4, 300 DPI), but there's enough space at the top/bottom of each image that you can easily resize and crop them if you prefer US letter size.

The Thin Blue Line - A Detroit Police Story - Player's Guide
Publisher: Melior Via

Another excellent product from Melior Via (the company behind Accursed). The Thin Blue Line is a modern urban fantasy setting, which focuses on the paranormal investigations of the psychically gifted police officers of Corktown Precinct. The player's guide is packed with useful information about the history and key locations of Detroit, and covers character creation and the various setting rules, including a wide range of new psychic abilities.
