The Book of Random Tables: 1920s-1930s
Publisher: dicegeeks
by David M. [Verified Purchaser]

This just falls short of five stars, but many because I'm being picky.

The book has a section on names, Amercian (200 female, 200 male and 200 surnames) and then British (again 400 first names, but just 100 surnames this time). It would of been nice to see this expanded to French, German and perhaps Russian and Eastern European names considering it is to support espionage and noir between the two world wars, no need for 400. I think if I was doing a list like this I'd put a little check box next to the names so I could easily tick off ones I've used.

The section on items is great, particularly "Items in a ..." to help with set dressing and descriptions.

But here comes my little picky complaint, more dates on things would be great. It first shows as an issue in the Best Selling Books, list, but is an issue on other list. The first item is "We Are Not Alone ‐ James Hilton" this was only published in 1937, so if your running a 1920's CoC game it shouldn't be about. Just adding a first published date to this list would let you know if you'ld picked something that was anachronistic so you could select something else. The author has gone to the trouble of putting dates and even costs for the Automobiles list making it much more useful in play at the table. The other lists where this information is missing means you will need to do some research of your own, so while they help with inspiration you need a bit of preparation.

The People lists (due to the lack of dates and much additional information) is probably going to be more use in preparing a scenario rather than in play. The World Leaders list particularly seems to not be very useful at all without additional information. Although the Jobs list will be great if player interrogate random NPCs a bit more in conversation.

The media list again suffers from a lack of dates, except for the Movies which are dated by year, but even better are split into 20's and 30's movies lists.

In Places there is a list of 200 Ghost Towns, which the book suggest could be used as locations of strange events, meeting places or hideouts. I think I would have liked Places chapter to perhaps include a list of small towns, or cities NPCs might have come from, a list of locations like Speakeasy names, or things like warehouses, docks, bowling allys, etc. To be more useful in play.

The Rumours section is great for some background colour, inspiration or adventure seeds.

There is also a very extensive Slang section that's a great addition to the book.

I bought it as a softcover book, and am very happy with my purchase. The book is a bargin as a PDF, and you will probably want to print out a few pages to have to hand at the table, the rest make it an invaluable resource to have during preparation.

Venture City • A Superpunk Sourcebook for Fate Core
Publisher: Evil Hat Productions, LLC

Amazing artwork, world concept and layout, for a Pay What You Want product. All thanks to the Evil Hat's Patreon funding, this product made me decide to join it. While I might have done the super powers slightly differently they are another good example of a different approach from the Fate Core System Toolkit.

I like how the sample adventure is worked into the text, but the book gives you additional ideas as well. The only problem if it can be considered one is it is too short, but that is due to the nature of the funding. Hopefully Venture City might be returned to and expanded at a later date.

e-Future Tiles: Star Command

Probably the best set yet and combined with the others you can pretty much make any ship you can think of. Much larger than earlier designs, while the other designs seemed restricted on width, you could make a really wide ship, with multiple levels with this design.

LIKED: Massive and more very flexible layout than earlier releases. Multiple levels at last.

DISLIKED: The Bonus Tiles listed as "available on the Website" arn't at least not at the time of writing. Could have done with a hanger bay that would suit smaller craft like Ronin Arts Duo Fighters, instead of those shuttles.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Bit disappointing in that it would have been so easy to make the ship overhead views into scaled colour counters for use with the other plans in this series. Other than that its a fine product.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Probably the best of the eFuture Tiles sets so far, many of the other sets so many tiles are mirrored or in the cases of the cargo bays in the Freighter set (actually identical, just rotated in the example layout) that you are really getting half as many tiles as advertised, there still a quality product just false advertising.

This set is much better and I recommend this one as the first one to buy if you want a taster. Combined with the Star Hunter or Ronins Star Ships you'll quickly have an number of different possible craft.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
An excellent responce to customer feedback, the bonus titles add more utility to this ship design, although as mentioned don't really let you change the basic layout of the ship.

Its a handy set of ship plans for a small Freighter. I'ld really like to see a much larger ship, however one where the a single tile would not have to be at the edge of the craft, but could have ship tiles all round it.

LIKED: Modular ship floor plans at last!

DISLIKED: Restrictive floor layout unlike earlier Fantasy e-tiles

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Satisfied
Compared with others in the e-Tiles I've been disappointed with the eFuture series so far. This is by far the most disappointing. It's 6 tile set so maybe I should have expected to much, but really its a four tile set as two of the tiles are just mirror images of two others, so really took no effort to produce and I could have done myself either automatically with my printer, or in an art package in 15 seconds.

The Bonus tiles you normally get with the Intro pdf, are virtually the same as two in the set (and again are just a mirror image).

LIKED: The central hub and missile bay were useful.

DISLIKED: The fact that half the tiles are just mirror images, and the bonus tiles are as far as I can see the same as the ones in the set.

QUALITY: Disappointing

VALUE: Disappointed
With the first issue out I have to say I'm happy with what I got. Obviously hard to judge this product on one issue, getting an issue each week for three months for $6, if only half as a useful as this first weeks issue it will still be better value than many of the small PDF's that sell for a few dollars.
