Carbon 2185 | A Cyberpunk RPG Core Rulebook
Publisher: Dragon Turtle Games
by andrew l. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 10/31/2019 14:13:26

(disclaimer; I wrote some of the history in this book for Dragon Turtle and the majority of thier Interlinked adventure.)

Okay so I am a little out of practice with the 5E system so I can;t speak to howrigid or accurate the translation to a futuristic setting it is, but my God does this game capture the cyberpunk mythos.

a clean chrome cyberfuture of sleek robots , grungy nameless criminal underworld and illegal hunted synths. If this sounds familiar it both is and isn't. Carbon as its own take on sci fi trops like Bladerunner, Terminator and yes even The Expanse. The view is spectacular but like all good cyberpunk it is from the bottom up. Sure you can see the spires of the upper echelons of San Francisco in the distance and beyond the Utopian outworld colonies - but only dimly.

Your world is dirty grimy and filled with copr sponsered polie crackdowns and running from one suicide scam to another just to put food and bullets on the table.

The fact that bullets are the currency that runs the blackmarket shoucl tellyou everything you need to know about this game!

Luna System

An interesting little offerieng from Kieth. It is rough and admittedly a playtest copy with an interesting hook. Dowload, test and guide the development of the system along with the developers.

Could be of interest to those growing writers/developers that want to get their feet wet helping make a new system.

Okay so what IS here?

As I said it's a rough system but shows promise. It is minimalist in nature follwoing the trends of new systems like teh Tiny series from Gallant Knight and Tales from the Loop. There is a lot of room for improvement, but then that's why its a playtest version. I liek teh conversation dynamic to the game ie GM says what happens, player says no. GAme system determines who is right. AT its heart the system reminds me more of a LARP (like VAmpire) than an RPG and coupld easily be used as one.

What could it use more of. A sample of a game session with a more extensive explaination of the differences between a Sequence and an Episode along with an actual adventure to sue would help this. Of course a campaign seting would help, but honestly its a playtest copy of rules nothing more.

A couple of places have HTML as placeholders but these were for stats taht were easily discerned. More extensive explianations of the game system's philosophy on teh first few pages would be nice. And graphicly the text does tend to blend from section to section making it a little hard to follow, especially when discussing sequences vs episodes.

Give it a try and make up your own mind, and share your commenst with the publisher to help him suceed.

Creator Reply:
Thanks for the feedback, Andrew! I'm already working on the next iteration of the game. I will eventually add an example of play, but the rules are in such a raw state currently that I am holding off on it to cut down on design cascade. When you make fundamental changes, you need to go through the document and catch each incident. I think that the example might be a demo adventure in a stereotypical dungeon with lots of helpful notes for the participants. Thank you for the note about Sequences. I began using the term while researching screenplay structure. It seemed to fit what I am trying to do, but it really doesn't. A Sequence is a mini-story within the greater plot. Like you might hear references to a combat sequence or chase sequence. As you pointed out, it is confusing. It is very subjective as to when one Sequence ends and another begins. So, I will be eliminating the concept of Sequences altogether and using Scenes as the division of time within an Episode. Unlike Sequences, Scenes are objective. A new Scene occurs whenever there is a shift in the location or time of the story. I really do want to hear from my customers to help develop the game. Is there a rule you have a problem with? Think you might have a solution? Please let me know so that we can fix it together.

campaign setting, new art, and an adventure. This is part of the reason why I love Lunar Games and Endless Realms.

This book isn't a quick start rules run through as you might expect (you can find a quick rules set on DrivethruRRPG). This is for established players and GMs. Level 6-8, Easily scaled to new players by a GM but aimed to the core audience.

Contains a campaign history, write ups for a handful of characters and short adventure.

heck there is even an epic poem worthy of a Norse Skald.

check it out.

  • disclaimer I have a story in this anthology *

Ed Greenwood and some very talented writers all spin individual tales of the Queen's personal guard. If you enjoy The Musketeers or fiction steeped in excellent and skilled worldbuilding then you will enjoy thsi book.

Endless Realms: Corebook

I've been following this publisher since they started playtesting (maybe before?)

Spoiler they are local to me and pretty cool. Few games willl prompt me to offer my meagre availabel writing time based on a playtest session.

Endless Realms was the exception.

I'm pleased that the final product is so beautiful and the rules so elegant.

You owe it to yourself to give it a look.

Chronicles of Lumis
Publisher: Lunar Games Inc
by andrew l. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/08/2018 16:05:27

(disclaimer) I wrote one of the stories in this anthology.

Chronicles of Lumis is one of the stretch goals for the Endless Realms RPG, It is a collection of short stories intended to immerse the reader in the world of Lumis (main but not the only setting for the RPG). Most of the stories are written by the development team and that gives them an indepth knowledge of the world which shines through in the tales. The unique races and the setting come thrugh well in these works, sometinse surprisingly so.

There are also other writers featured such as Alana Joli Abbott who were not part of the design team and they bring fresh insight and voices to the world.

at 211 pages its a good solid read and fun at that.
