Prototype: Pimp Daddy is a short product from LPJ Design, containing a single new advanced class and five new feats. It comes in a zipped file slightly over three megabytes in size, containing a single PDF. The PDF is six pages long, including a page for the OGL, and a half-page for the cover image. No table of contents or bookmarks or given, nor are they really necessary.
The book has only a small amount of artwork. The full-color image on the top half of the first page shows a typical pimp daddy decked out in bling. A small cut of this image, slightly faded, acts as a border for the top the pages in the rest of the product. Headers for various sections are also done in blue. Altogether, despite the lack of a printer-friendly version, there shouldn?t be much trouble with printing this out.
The product opens with a few brief paragraphs about exactly what it means to be a pimp daddy. This section, although short, does a relatively good job of emphasizing that a true pimp daddy is all about style, and having the substance to back that style up, with questions of what he does with that style being relatively secondary. As it notes, a true pimp daddy can be the hero of his hood, or he can be the worst gangsta around. What?s important is that he has the green, the hos, and the respect of his peoples.
The Pimp Daddy is a 10 level advanced class, which is most easily attained with Charismatic Hero levels. Amusingly, a Pimp Daddy?s class abilities are a mix of combative, social, and wealth-based abilities that do a very good job of capturing the feel of a pimp daddy. For example, Pimp Hand lets him do lethal unarmed damage, since a true pimp daddy must be ready to throw down, whereas Dime Piece Hos lets him increase his purchasing power by throwing in a working girl or two to sweeten a deal. The same applies to the five new feats given at the end of the product. These run the gamut of what kind of Pimp Daddy you want to be. From increasing your ability to blackmail people, to being a drug chemist, to just knowing how to treat the ladies in bed. The only major downside to this section is that the class abilities are listed alphabetically, rather than in order gained.
All in all, Prototype: Pimp Daddy does a very good job of making the mechanics work to fit the intended style of the archetype portrayed here. A Pimp Daddy character will have the girls, money, and style that you?d expect him to. However, the product doesn?t go any further than that. If you?re wondering just how a Pimp Daddy PC could work in a campaign, there?s no help to be found here; you?ll need to figure that one out on your own. Still, once you do come up with an answer for that one, you?ll definitely be able to play it with style.
LIKED: This product does a very good job of capturing the feel of a pimp daddy with its class abilities. The class strikes just the right chord of substance and style to make the character archetype seem believable.

DISLIKED: The class abilities are listed alphabetically, instead of by class level gained. Moreover, while the mechanics for a pimp daddy are laid out very well, the lack of ideas on how to run such a character in a game may relegate this class to being only for NPCs, unless you can figure out how to run an adventuring pimp daddy.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Satisfied
